Professional Apicoectomy Procedures

Apicoectomy (or root-end resection) is the most common procedure used to save damaged teeth with injured pulp to avoid having them extracted. It is considered an endodontic surgery and can also be used to treat damage to root surfaces and the surrounding bone.

How Does Apicoectomy Work?

Apicoectomy begins with an incision in the gum tissue to expose the bone and surrounding inflamed tissue. The damaged tissue and the end of the root tip are then removed. A root-end filling is put in their place to prevent any infection of the root before the gum is sutured. The bone naturally heals around the root over a period of months, restoring full function to the tooth.
