Root canals are one of the most common dental procedures performed every year. Simple root canal treatments can help save your natural teeth and prevent you from needing additional dental implants or bridges.
At the center of your tooth is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth, commonly called pulp. Infection of the pulp can be caused by a multitude of issues including trauma to the tooth, decay or cracks or chips to the tooth. Infections can be identified as visible injuries or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the general area.
When you experience these symptoms, your dentist is likely to recommend non-surgical treatment to remove the diseased pulp. Injured pulp is taken out and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy generally requires local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on each individual assessment. In general, root canal therapy is successful in 90% of cases.
When your root canal therapy is completed, a record of your treatment will be provided to your dentist. You should contact them at our office for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of completion.
